How to Time Block

Most of us know about time blocking, but how do you actually implement it effectively?

I don’t know about you, but I feel like everyone talks about time blocking as a great productivity tool, yet no one explains how to use it properly.

Here’s how I implement time blocking:

  1. I start by reviewing my weekly task list and prioritizing based on importance and urgency.
2.I then look at my next day and ask, “What’s the one thing I need to accomplish to make today productive?”
  2. My meetings are already on my calendar, I schedule my highest priority task around those meetings, ensuring it’s done first thing in the morning.
  3. I fill in the rest of the day with my other urgent tasks, including breaks and lunch, so I know the flow of the day before it even begins.
  4. I only fully block 1-2 days ahead of time so that I have flexibility to add meetings as I need to.

The secret sauce: Prioritize the most important task early, so even if something disrupts your day, the critical work is already done.

How do you all implement time blocking?
