Questions

We need new ways to get applicants to apply for our open position. What other ways besides billboards and word of mouth there is?

This is specifically for School Bus Driver Position. Most of our drivers tend to be 40 year or older, and many retire every year and we are in constant need for new ones. We pay training (5 weeks) and once you are hired you get all the benefits from retirement to health insurance. The starting salary is $18.50. We need at least 100 new drivers this year. What can we do to get more applicants besides the conventional billboards and word of mouth? We give $1000 to our current workers for referrals that work over 90 days with us but that still doesn't give us enough people. Any suggestions?

Consider service providers which work in specific employee sub-segments. For example, create a relationship with service providers servicing the aboriginal segment. This is just an example, but you can work with service providers who hire people with certain disabilities, etc.. Service providers are always looking to staff at entry level positions.

Have you tried where job seekers spend their time?

Consider job boards like Monster, Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, Craigslist, or Zipecruiter.

Additionally, use sponsored Facebook ads targeted to your ideal applicant.

At first impression--because you need so many drivers--is I'd like to understand more about bus drivers, generally, and what their interests are. I'd also like to understand what other sorts of occupations translate well to driving, where some of your positive attributes can help someone consider a position or career change. Perhaps it's a higher hourly rate than what they're earning now, schedule flexibility, working with kids - whatever it is. Then put yourself where they are and get into their lives. Facebook is an obviously good place to start. Get yourself in the conversation and promote the good, interesting things about the opportunity you offer. If I was running this engagement, I'd map everything out and consider expanding the size of my funnel by asking questions about who we're looking for, where they spend their (virtual) time, and how to get in front of them. Happy to chat. PLS upvote if this was helpful.
