Reshare Commerce
With the advent of the Internet and eCommerce in the 1990’s, Southam recognized that brands could not sell online directly to end users without causing significant conflict. At the same time, he knew that to “make a better mouse trap”, brands need to have direct contact with their end users. He also understood that brand messaging erodes as it gets conveyed through multiple parties. The challenge of how a brand could sell online and benefit from a direct relationship with its end users without disintermediating its channel partners was posed to Southam in 97. He immediately envisioned a solution that ultimately resulted in patents being filed for a system and method of doing business on the Internet to achieve these goals. US Patent # 6,594,641 was originally filed by Southam on April 16/99. He then founded Reshare on April 19, 1999. Between then and September 09, he acted as Chairman/CEO and Chief Strategist, leading the company through tumultuous times including the market crash resulting from 911, the telecommunications downturn and resulting economic peril, and finally the dot.com crash. Southam credits his Board Members, shareholders, vendors, advisors, friends and mother for their undying support and unfaltering belief during this difficult period. Even though a decade had passed and Reshare had not gained the traction it deserved, Southam did not surrender. Instead, he sought out and secured expert management with a proven track record of growth. He then engineered a restructuring to preserve shareholder value and make Reshare more attractive to investors. Reshare Commerce was born with a new Board and management. Reshare Corporation assets were conveyed to Reshare Commerce in exchange for over 99.9% of Reshare Commerce stock.
