Brian started his career as a Silicon Valley corporate lawyer, focusing on venture capital financings during the 1990s “dot com” boom. His many deals include both the Series A and B rounds with Netscape (Marc Andreessen) and NeXT Computing (Steve Jobs) and all funding rounds and the IPO for Siebel Systems. In 2000, Brian founded a law firm in San Francisco to assist technology and hardware companies in their pre-seed, seed and Series A fundraising, as well as a range of companies in general corporate and employment (unfortunately very relevant to California companies) matters.

Realizing that the formal practice of law was limiting the advice he could provide, in 2010 Brian sold his controlling interest in his law firm and began consulting to companies on fundraising and general corporate legal and operational matters, often taking the role of Fractional CFO. In 2022, a friend asked Brian to join BDev Ventures, a newly-formed venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, to both run the operational side of the firm while also serving on the investment team. BDev was industry agnostic but placed emphasis on companies that had a connection to LATAM, either by its market/products or its founders. Brian built out the investment associate and legal teams, taking the firm from one US investment to 24 investments in 7 countries. A change in investment strategies forced the firm to step back and reset in early 2024.

Brian’s broad experience allows him to effectively advise clients in a myriad of fundraising, legal, finance and corporate governance matters, and quickly act across disciplines. For the last few years, a big focus of his work is helping companies quickly prepare for fundraising rounds, knowing that many companies self-eliminate because of legal, cap table and governance deficiencies detected during investor due diligence. Brian also has extensive experience in optimizing a company’s corporate, management and Board structure, and assisting companies in the transition of executives into proper roles.
